Suggested Hawke's Bay Itineraries

Culture and History

09.00am: Travel in a beautifully restored vintage Buick on a guided tour through the city of Napier whose unique architecture is the result of the 1931 earthquake. (Walking tour for groups).
11.00am: Take a tour of Church Road Winery and the only wine museum in Hawke’s Bay before enjoying a delicious lunch and wine tasting.
14.00pm: Visit the oldest winemaker in New Zealand, The Mission Estate Winery and take a guided tour to learn about the history of the winery before sampling some of the exquisite wines on offer.
16.30pm: Wander through the galleries of the Hawke’s Bay Museum and Art Gallery, whose changing exhibitions include the 1931 Napier Earthquake, Art Deco Style, dinosaurs and the local Maori people of Ngati Kahungunu

Taste the Bay

09.00am: Mix with the locals at the Hawke’s Bay Farmers Market and enjoy the tastes and fun of a traditional market showcasing some of Hawke’s Bay’s finest produce.
11.00am: Take a private vineyard tour at Clearview Estate Winery before enjoying a sumptuous lunch and wine tasting.
14.00pm: Visit the Silky Oak Chocolate Factory, the manufacturers of delicious handmade chocolates and wander through the ‘Chocolate Thru the Ages Museum’ before watching chocolates being made in the factory and then sampling some in the chocolate store.
16.00pm: Improve your culinary skills at the Sileni Estates Winery Cooking School and enjoy wine pairing in the rural surroundings of Hawke’s Bay Wine Country. 

Wine Me Dine Me

09.30am: Take a leisurely cycle at your own pace around Hawke’s Bay stopping in at wineries, breweries and artisan food shops with Bike D’Vine Winery Tours or Bike About Tours.
14.30pm: Visit Craggy Range Winery and take a private tour through the winery before enjoying a wine while viewing the mighty Te Mata Peak.
17.00pm: Join Odyssey New Zealand for a twilight tour around some of Hawke’s Bay’s leading wineries, enjoying a course of the progressive dinner and wine pairing at each.

Family Fun in the Bay

09.30am: Take a tour in a 4WD vehicle with Gannet Safari’s Overland, over the hill country of Summerlee Station to the tip of Cape Kidnappers and see largest and most accessible mainland Gannet Colony in the world.
13.00pm: Enjoy lunch in the Orchard Café before taking a tractor tour of Pernel Fruitworld to see world class pip and stone fruit being grown and sampling the delicious varieties along the way.
15.00pm: Stop in at the Classic Sheepskin Factory for a look around and to pick up some fantastic New Zealand Wool products.
15.30pm: Get up close to the oldest living Tuatara in the World, along with other marine and animal life at the National Aquarium of New Zealand.
17.00pm: Enjoy a relaxing and fun round of mini golf at Par 2 on Marine Parade.

The Great Outdoors

08.00am: Take a walking or 4WD tour over farmland, ridges, regenerating Kanuka forests, beaches and dune systems in New Zealand’s largest sanctuary and see rare shore birds, penguins, numerous archaeological sites and kiwi’s in their natural environment.
13.00pm: Sit back and enjoy Hawke’s Bay with Prinsy’s Experiences by choosing from fly fishing, rural farm tours or an afternoon wine tour.   Enjoy magnificent views from Te Mata Peak and Bluff Hill lookouts, before visiting sheep or Red Deer farms for demonstrations or opting for a leisurely and informative wine tour.

Mild to Wild

08.30am: Enjoy a morning round of golf at the internationally acclaimed Cape Kidnappers Golf Course which affords magnificent views of the Pacific Ocean and Hawke’s Bay.
13.00pm: Wander through the Lavender fields at Whitebay Lavender before enjoying lunch at the café where all the food is made with a hint of Lavender.
14.00pm: Head to Mountain Valley Adventure Lodge on the Mohaka River and try the wild side of wine country.  You can be as adventurous as you like with a range of activities on offer such as white water rafting, kayaking, horse trekking, mountain biking, fly fishing or tramping, before finishing the day off with a meal and refreshing drink at the lodge restaurant.

Self Guided Experiences

Pick up a copy of the Hawke’s Bay Winery Guide and go on a self guided tour of the many wineries situated in the region.  Visit world class cellar doors and sample wines from leading wineries such as Church Road Winery, Clearview Estate Winery, Craggy Range Winery, Mission Estate Winery and Sileni Estates Winery.
