Hawkes Bays racing scene is vibrant, with thousands of locals and visitors packing the racecourse sixteen times a year.
The highlight of racing in Hawkes Bay is the Spring Carnival held over five weeks between August and October and featuring three Premier Racedays. With over $2 million in prize money available over those days, interest in the Carnival is immense both nationally and internationally.
The flagship race of the Spring Carnival is the Group I Kelt Capital $2 million Stakes, which is the richest Weight-For-Age event in New Zealand. The Spring Carnival also includes the Group I Mudgway PartsWorld Stakes and the Group I Stoney Bridge Stakes.
Two other high profile Saturday meetings on Hawkes Bays racing calendar attract serious local support Aprils Hawkes Bay Gold Cup Raceday featuring a Group 2 race sponsored by Davmet New Zealand Ltd and our major winter jumping meeting which incorporates the M&D Small Limited Hawkes Bay Steeples and Placemakers Hawkes Bay Hurdles.
Our New Years Raceday attracts the biggest attendance day of the year with up to 10,000 people enjoying a traditional day at the races with family and friends. The whole family is catered for with kids' entertainment and a host of activities between races.
Hawkes Bay Racings Thursday and Friday racedays offer the only New Zealand galloping meeting aired on Trackside with an on course presenter giving the meeting additional exposure. Although small in stakes compared to Saturday meetings, Thursdays and Fridays attract very good fields and are well patronised.
