The Masters Lodge
Welcome to The Masters Lodge
The Masters Lodge is a small luxury lodge positioned in the 'Dress Circle' of Bluff Hill in the City of Napier, with spectacular views over the blue Pacific Ocean. This historically distinctive residence was the home of tobacco baron Gerhard Husheer, Director of the National Tobacco Company. The residence was designed by famed architect Louis Hay in the early 1930s when he also designed Napiers most famous Art Deco building the National Tobacco Company Building and features original Art Deco and Art Nouveau furnishings, servant bell system and extensive leadlighting (stained glass) throughout.
The Lodge offers only two Guest Suites, each with spectacular views over the blue Pacific Ocean, Cape Kidnappers, the Art Deco City of Napier, and the Marine Parade. Named Kidnappers and Deco, each suite reflects a major Hawke's Bay attraction and includes private ensuite, art deco furnishings, damask cotton bed linens, goosedown duvets & pillows, walk-in wardrobes, extra towels & bathrobes, separate shower and original cast iron bathtub, Seascape toiletries, hair dryers, Sky-TV, CDs & video in the Solarium, direct dial phones, wireless internet access and personal modem ports.
The Lodge also offers a living room and cocktail lounge, formal dining room, solarium, superbly stocked wine cellar, drawing room, shady verandahs, beautifully maintained flower gardens in park-like grounds, off-street parking, and much, much more! The Lodge overlooks Cape Kidnappers, the Art Deco City of Napier, the Pacific Ocean and the Marine Parade.
The beach, shops, restaurants, museums and central business district are all within a 10 minute walk from the Lodge.
After a day in the wilderness or on the Wine Trail, indulge in a luxurious Massage in the Solarium, and an intimate Gourmet Dinner served by candlelight in the Dining Room, on the Verandah or in the Garden. Our dinners are prepared by our own Chef and complemented by rare local wines from our extensive wine cellar. The highlight for wine enthusiasts staying at the Lodge is certainly the Dinner with the Winemaker. For the Art Deco enthusiasts, we will arrange an Art Deco Experience to include a private tour in a vintage car of many of the Art Deco buildings in Napier, cocktails and a hosted dinner at the Lodge with your personal expert in Art Deco architecture and design. Or, join Master Chef Kent Baddeley in The Masters Kitchen for a personal Culinary Class where you will learn to prepare the evenings culinary delights. This is a hands-on opportunity to actually help the Chef prepare your own meal while learning about NZ cuisine, Hawke's Bay meat, seafood and produce, and professional cooking techniques.
